Epitome of Gaming After 30

Hey everyone! It's been a long time since I've posted, and I just wanted to throw a quick note up here kind of explaining where things are at right now.

I started this blog 5 years ago as I was just turning 30. At the time, it was just me and my wife, in our house with lots of spare time to be able to dedicate to whatever it is that we wanted to do. I decided to take up writing about my favorite hobby in the world: Games. I loved doing it. I loved taking pictures, I loved unboxing, I loved posting reviews of whatever it was that I was playing.

When I hit 32, we added a little girl to the mix, which cut down on my free time pretty significantly. The occasional post would still come, and I started dabbling in podcasting to get the word out on things that we would naturally talk about around the table (this also was a great deal of fun, if a bit awkward to say "save it for the podcast!" mid conversation), but the reviews started cutting down pretty significantly. I wasn't able to do the newest and hottest games all the time, and making time to review something that I wasn't really enjoying seemed silly to do when there were other things that I was enjoying.

When I hit 35, we had baby number 2. And now my time is really tied up, but in a good way. The latest and greatest games? Ha! Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight aren't even on my radar (MGSV is though ;)). My time is spent in quick things that I can enjoy for a little bit and then put down, like Heroes of the Storm and Hearthstone (Blizzard and I are on good terms again). I need to have these things that I can quickly pick up and put down as my family needs me. And writing about these things, well, I'm not bad, but I'm certainly not qualified to be an authority on anything in these games.

As my kids get older, I'll be able to introduce more games to them and eventually they'll be old enough to want to do play these more advanced games with mom and dad and then we can talk about them and see what they liked, and that might be what we're headed towards. Less reviews of Kingdom Death, more reviews of Rhino Hero. But even with that, I don't have the free time to be able to express my thoughts on anything, let alone something that people would look to for advice on whether or not its any good.

What's happened to my free time is the epitome of Gaming After 30. Free time is taken up by important things, and while gaming is certainly one of the big ones, the time to write and reflect on it isn't. It will be again, someday, and I will want to write about it again, and my experiences and perspective of everything, but for right now, it's taken a back seat to more important things.

Thanks again to everyone for your support and your continued visitation of the blog. I wouldn't have made it this long without knowing that there were people out there reading and following along. We're not shutting down, we're just taking a very extended break while we catch back up with time. Thanks everyone!
